Turkey Visa Changes : New e-visa System

Turkey visa changes : Deadline for new e-visa system extended until 2015.

Holidaymakers heading to Turkey this summer no longer have to apply for an e-visa before travelling as the deadline to introduce a new system has been extended. Electronic visas were due to be exclusively in place by April 10, meaning visitors would have to apply before setting off on holiday and would no longer be able to buy a visa on arrival.

However, The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has been negotiating with the Turkish authorities to seek an extension to the deadline - which has today been agreed.

It means until December 31, 2014, sun-seekers heading to the popular beach destination can still receive a visa stamp in their passports on arrival in Turkey via an interactive kiosk in airports.

And, as the new system is already in place, travellers can choose to apply for an e-visa via the Turkish government website. Both visas are for 90 days and multiple entry and cost £10.
Abta announced the news on its website, saying: 'We are pleased to advise that today we have received official confirmation from the attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey that the transition period of the e-visa process has been extended until 31 December 2014.
'This means that during the transition period from now until 31 December 2014, Turkish visas can be obtained both online and at the port of entry.
'Visitors arriving in Turkey without an e-visa will be able to obtain them via interactive kiosks located at Turkish airports until this deadline.'
The deadline extension comes after The Foreign and Commonwealth Office warned holidaymakers about unauthorised websites which could try to charge an additional application fee for the visas.
It advises all travellers applying for an e-visa for Turkey to use the official Turkish government website (www.evisa.gov.tr).
It said: 'Some unauthorised websites may charge for information about e-visas, and for submitting applications.
'These websites are not endorsed by or associated with the Turkish government. Be wary of such sites and businesses, particularly those that seek additional fees for other services.'
